The Saint Patrick’s batallion
( Batallón de San Patricios)
Was a unit of 175 to several hundreds immigrants of Ireland and Expatriates of European decent who fought as part of the Mexican Army against United States in the Mexican-American war 1846-48 formed and led by John Riley.
The San Patricios were responsible of the toughest battles encountered by the United States in the invation of Mexico.
Churubusco proved to be about the severest battle fought in the valley of Mexico.
The Nickname was Los Patricios ( los colorados valientes ) and their motto was ERIN GO BRAGHT ( Ireland forever )
The Patricios are honored in both Mexico and Ireland.
